The key to a good customer is having a genuine interest in their business that they can express and trust. Customers are the people who do business with you (i.e. retailers, restaurant, etc.) and you can be assured that your customer is someone you can trust. Also, having a sense of humor can go a long way and make customers feel comfortable, which is important for any business.

The first time I met with one of my retail clients, I asked him how he felt about his customers. His response was “I don’t like them.” I asked him what he would do if he were to see them again and get up-to-date with the customer-centric way of doing business. His response was “I’d leave.

I can’t imagine it would be hard to feel good working with a customer. I know from experience that I can get along really well with my restaurant customers. I can be very direct when necessary, I can be really funny, I can be creative, I can be customer-friendly. I’m not going to lie, I’m not the best customer person.

Customers are a huge part of a restaurant’s success. They are the reason customers come back. They are the reason the restaurant is profitable. They are the reason employees are paid so well, customers are happy to recommend the restaurant to others, and customers are happy to spend their hard-earned cash on the restaurant. And in the world of business, customers are the ones who make money. They get the restaurant up and running, they get the employees paid, and then they get the profit.
